Length of Treatment

It is hard to say how long your child would benefit from OT. Your therapist may be able to give you a better idea once they get to know your child and how well they respond to treatment sessions. Our therapists complete regular progress toward goals and will provide you with a written progress update at any time should you request one. Your therapist will complete a full re-assessment (using standardized measures) on your child each year. A re-assessment report will also be completed if your child is approaching discharge from therapy.

Assessment / Evaluation Process

Progress in Motion offers a variety of assessment tools that use standardized measures to assess a child’s strengths and weaknesses. These assessments measure gross motor skills, fine motor skills, visual motor and visual perceptual skills, handwriting performance, and sensory processing. The specific assessment (or assessments) to be used will be determined by the therapist after discussing the specific concerns with the parents. The evaluation process is typically 60-90 minutes, depending on the child.

Following the evaluation, your therapist will provide you with a detailed report with your child’s performance in comparison to other children his/her age. Your therapist will discuss the findings of this report with you and any other caregivers you wish to be present. After reviewing the findings from the assessment, your therapist will establish an individualized treatment plan for your child and weekly sessions will begin thereafter.
